Exclamation GuildWars Expansion Pack?

Hey, there has been rumors floating around lately, i heard that ArenaNet is already beginning to work on an expansion for guildwars.

My sources say:

~ The expansion will feature a higher level cap.
~ New areas, enemies, items, and new regions.
~ New arena types and games (such as King of the Hill, etc.)
~ New clan features
~ New skins
~ New skills
~ And much more

Once again this is just a rumor I heard, pray to god its real. If anyone can confirm this that would be awesome.

If i hear more ill let everyone know.

Working on an exapnsion pack is ollllllllldddddd news. That's the whole way this game is being produced, expansions every 6-8 months. I can possibly see all the things you mentioned coming out save one. No one wants a higher level cap.

Edit: and also, it's Arenanet that would be developing the expansion. NCsoft is the publisher.

regarding cap of level 20
Quote:
Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'.

Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content.

All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

Am I required to buy the expansion packs to continue to play Guild Wars?

No. Every purchase you make in the continuation of the Guild Wars saga will be your choice. If you purchase expansion packs you will gain access to new regions of the world, new skills and abilities, new items, new professions, and much more. If you choose to not purchase a chapter, you will still be able to play the chapters of Guild Wars that you own, and you will have common areas in which you will be able to play with and against your friends who have purchased the other chapter(s).

Will I remain competitive if I do not buy the expansion packs? Will I be able to compete with and against others if I have only some of the Guild Wars chapters?

Yes. Purchasing the newer chapters of Guild Wars will not make you strictly more powerful. You will have access to many more strategic options, due to the expanding nature of the skills, abilities, items and professions that you enjoy with each chapter.

It would be similar to building a deck in Magic: The Gathering???: The more cards you own, the more different playing decks that you can choose from to use in the game.

When you buy the chapters of Guild Wars, you will acquire a larger collection of skills and abilities from which to build your skill set, but you will not gain more power. So if you purchase a chapter and your friend does not, you will still be able to play competitively against and with one another.

... be happy with level cap of 20. Now you got some nice opponents rather than pwning level 40 people when ure level 61

And i do hope those clan features are going to be released with an update. Cause i dont want to wait for them 6 to 9 months.

That's fine if they don't raise the level cap. But if they don't what will be the extended content and more importantly what would be the point in doing the extended content? Equipment? Spells?

I personally would like to see a level increase but we know that pretty much wont happen. What say you?

read what I posted earlier

new expansions will have
- new skills
- new abilities
- new items
- new professions

but its not intended to disupt the existing power balance of classes

if they raise the level,
that would unbalance the game for those that didnt buy the Chapters

As I posted from the Guild Wars site
Quote:
When you buy the chapters of Guild Wars .. you will not gain more power.
you gain more content to explore and more diversity to choose from
- but you remain competitive with people who did not buy the chapter

I can see the level cap increasing eventually. Mainly because the new missions(chapters) in the expansions are going to eventually cease to be challenging at a certain point. You increase the levels of the player and the monsters accordingly, even slightly and the challenge can be greatly increased. Of course, they'll probably have enemies with better AI/hp/armour/more damage/etc. But even still eventually there will be a point that with all this an increased level cap will have to be introduced. Not saying it will be the first expansion, or even the second, maybe about 10 down the timeline, but it will eventually.

the Crystal Desert has never ceased to be challenging for me as level 20

as a level 20,
making you fight/outwit a level 30 as part of a mission can provide plenty of challenge

most people are used to grinding/levelling to improve their character

GuildWars is not intended to be like that

the main site itself compares itself to Magic:The Gathering in regards to how expansion packs will enhance existing character builds

Every expansion should increase the LVCap by about 5 or 10 every expansion until the level hits 100, and then make Uber monsters when that target is reached to increase the challenge and replayability of the game. Do some people agree?

The three major charms of this game are:
The lack of grind.
Rewarding skill instead of playing time invested.
A balanced and well thought out pvp combat system.

Why do you want those to change?

I suspect some people are just used to the traditional MMO approach, press the feeder bar and get your ding. There are other ways to do it (and better, from the standpoint of competition).

We'll be fighting this battle on the boards until the end of time, I suspect. But I don't want Guild Wars to be WoW, I want it to be Guild Wars.

what are the benefits of a higher level cap?

to create challenge,
all the devs have to do is throw High level creatures/puzzles at you

you dont need to be higher level to have tougher challenges

whats the difference between
level 20 player vs level 30 monster
and
level 30 player vs level 40 monster

its GuildWars stated goal that *no one* has to buy any chapters
- and yet can still compete with people who do buy the chapters

currently in game,
you get a new skill point for every time you fill the 20th experience bar

for all we know,
maybe thats how they will implement new professions

you may have to fill up your 20th experience bar a few times

Oh yes, I know about that, I mean when the expansions are at level 100, you get Uber bosses and drops which are almost legendary, and are worth the idea of getting through the game.

Lack of Grind...? could you explain that to me a bit more?
Rewarding skill, yeah, maybe the elite skills need more points and gives more availability of the skills, but it shouldn't do massive damage, as it would ruin the already challenging game and make it too easy
A well thought out PVP system? Oh...! you mean like QuickMatch and OptiMatch to play against guild/team players around your character level? That should be implemented!

I'd go more for having the level cap raised about 5 levels every 4-5 expansions. And no, it wouldn't really be the difference between a level 20 vs level 30 or a level 30 vs level 40, it'd more be the difference between a level 20 vs a level 30 and a level 25 vs a level 40-45.

But I don't know exactly how the new things in the expansions will be implemented as I am not that creative I guess. As I said before, there are many ways you can make the game more challenging without raising the level, but raising the level is also a way to make the game more challenging. Eventually you'll end up doing that.

By the time that happens though, I doubt A.net would be supporting GW any longer as that would be years down the time track. (talking about pve btw, pvp will always remain challenging even if they lowered the level cap to level 2 XD)
